A wooden sarcophagus panel depicting the sun god Ra, in the form of Great Cat, slaying the snake Apep (Apophis)
Either side stands Bastet holding a sistrum with many hieroglyphics around.

LATE PERIOD – PTOLEMAIC PERIOD, CIRCA 664-30 B.C; Length: 64 cms;
Condition: Generally a little distressed especially in the top right corner; good colour but considerable retouching.

In this depiction of a myth, the Great Cat performs an heroic deed by killing Apophis, the evil snake. The snake symbolizes hostile forces that cause problems for the deceased during their journey to paradise.
